About

Norwegian soprano Louise Engeseth (25) is a versatile opera and concert singer based in Copenhagen, where this autumn she will begin her final year at the Royal Danish Opera Academy. She holds a Master’s degree in Classical Vocal Performance from the Norwegian Academy of Music and a Bachelor’s degree from the Grieg Academy in Bergen.

Her 2026/2027 season includes her debut as a soloist with the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra and a return to the Royal Danish Opera House (Det Kongelige Teater) to perform the role of Ida in Die Fledermaus. She will also do some concerts in Scandinavia and have many performances with the opera academy (repertoire and concert dates will be added continuously).

Recently, Engeseth performed the title role in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande at the Opera Academy and made her debut as Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen at the Opera by the Fjord festival, conducted by Eivind Gullberg Jensen. At the festival, she was awarded the 2026 GC Rieber Singing Prize, with the jury praising her development into "an expressive lyric soprano with a warm, personal tone."

Her operatic experience spans a variety of roles, including Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Midtåsen Kulturfestival, Countess Stasi (Die Csárdásfürstin) at the Oslo Opera Festival, and Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Opera Nordfjord. She has also appeared at the Royal Danish Opera House (Det Kongelige Teater) in Der Rosenkavalier under Marie Jacquot, and previously performed Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the Saluzzo Opera Academy.

As a concert singer and recitalist, Engeseth has performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra under Omer Shteinhart, and Dvořák’s Biblical Songs at the Sandefjord and Stavanger Chamber Music Festivals. She is a frequent guest at the Bergen International Festival (Festspillene i Bergen), has toured with the Bergen National Opera, and performs regularly as a soloist in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio across Norway.

Engeseth was selected as one of five participants for the 2023/2024 Opera Academy mentorship program through the Queen Sonja International Music Competition. She has also participated in masterclasses with Lise Davidsen and Joyce DiDonato. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including the 2026 GC Rieber Singing Prize, the Dobloug Grant (2025), the Kappelborg Skagen International Talent Prize (2023), and the Tom Wilhelmsen Grant.
